Hudson
We took the Subway to City Hall and then strolled over the Brooklyn Bridge before getting some breakfast bagels and eating them in the City Hall Park. Then we walked over to the World trade Centre and Ground Zero site and – ducking through an upscale Mall to use the restrooms – emerged onto the evocative sight of the Hudson River, with the New Jersey skyline opposite swathed in fog. Then we wandered along the embankment to Battery Park, ambled up to Wall Street, ate Dunkin’ Donuts in Bowling Green Park and still arrived early for our ferry to Liberty Island – which is just as well as there was still a horrendous queuing experience there to navigate before they let us over to see the Statue and the Reception Halls on Ellis Island. Later we went up to Chinatown and I queued up with Tom to get into the fashionable Palace store – more like a gallery inside with custom skateboards on the walls and the like. Afterwards we went back to the Hotel for nachos and wings and 2 for 1 cocktails for Beck and Tom – the barman kindly choosing to deliberately misread the exact date on Tom’s Driving Licence…
