the city poem
She was now the little girl she always wanted to be back then.
She kept running.
She ran and ran and ran…
She ran till she saw the stars.
Big stars, none of them blinking at her.
Big, steady stars.
They grew bigger and bigger, the stars.
It wasn’t until then she would understand
She was not facing the infinite blackness of the universe, no
The stars were the lights of the city,
The enormous city, getting bigger and deeper and darker
All those lights, all of them, brighter and brighter
Till the city swallows the girl, it took shorter than a prayer.
