2nd Night of Corona Capital, DF, Mexico.
The crowd at today's offering was much larger than Saturday's, which going by the amount of Florencesque flowerbands on show, compared to Saturday, could probably account for the difference alone!
She appears to be incredibly popular down here. Though she does nothing for me.
Taking photos today, I quickly realised would be a much tougher affair. I didn't fancy my chances much for getting too close too many stages. Still I did manage to get myself up close for James Murphy's (founder of LCD SoundSystem) DJ set. However, a DJ doing his thing standing behind a large plinth/table doesn't make for the most exciting of photos. Still managed to get a few....I think! This being one that I took as, I was backing my way from the front, having had enough of the closer shots.
Cracking set from the man too. Did a little (but not a lot!) fugging to some great choons.
Pretty much gave up taking photos from then on, as they crowds had really swelled and we couldn't get further than the sound desk. Took a few snaps after that and a few little clips of video, just to have.
It was no problem choosing to see New Order play, who were on at the same time as the Florencinas. The 1st time I'd ever seen them play live, since I'd started listening to them (Blue Monday, of course!) on my brother's hi-fi, when I was about 13 years old.
That's only 30 or so years ago! They didn't disappoint, even though I wasn't expecting much (Bernard Sumner's voice not being the best), they were great from start to finish. Playing lots of really early stuff, which was great after not hearing it in a long while. And then finished off with a few Joy Division songs. Including, "Love will tear us apart again", seeing as it was there 1st time south of the border.
After that, The Black Lips played, as did DJ Shadow. However, a combination of being really far back from the stages (almost background noise), a chill wind and general festival fatigue, meant that I didn't really pay much attention to their shows.
For another time, I hope. Thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a weekend.
