Shaldon Bridge

The weather contrast between today and yesterday was remarkable.  A warm, sunny day lay ahead as I took this photo from Back Beach this morning.  A candidate for Wide Wednesday hosted by Bobsblips.  There is a theme of Beauty, I think this is a beautiful view, on a beautiful day along the River Teign to Shaldon Bridge from just outside our holiday accommodation in Teignmouth.

It was an early start to get to Torquay by 11am when the ferry was leaving for Dartmouth.  Unfortunately as I tried to buy the tickets at the kiosk we were told the ferry had been cancelled owing to rough sea conditions on the route.  We went for coffee to regroup and decided to visit Torre Abbey in Torquay.  Originally a monastery built in 1196 it was virtually destroyed by Henry VIII following the dissolution of the Catholic Church.  The building is now a museum, art gallery and exhibition space dating from Elizabethan times.

There is also a very large walled garden with two glass houses, the Palm and the Tropical see extra.
