Snake's Head Fritillary

There are a number of Snake's Head Fritillary on the edges of our pond. It is easy to see where they got their name, especially when you see them befor they are as far open as this. There are white ones as well, see extra.

Looking at these makes me more certain that yesterday's buds must have been another variety of fritillary.
