Re-set
Looking out to Manchester one way and to empty nothingness the other, this stretch of the Pennines is the first place I explored. Stretching my 10 year old imagination as I stretched my legs, I roamed across the empty moorlands. Confidence and courage growing (although the fear of wolves has never really disapeared!) as I negotiated peat bogs, scrambled on every grit outcrop going and swam in the reservoirs. 2 bold 11 year olds even survived a long, cold first "bivvi" in a "cave" up here.
I used to sit in this spot lots, escaping mostly.
It's been a while since those days but sitting here today, letting the curlew's call, the occasional glimpse of a twite, the smell of damp moorland and the warmth of the sun on my back calm my restlessness, it was the re-set I desperately needed.
