Prancing Horse, Riding Wood
The prancing horse is the symbol of Kent, appearing on all the county’s logos so it is an appropriate subject for this sculpture in the Woodland Trust in Bearsted. This is the third such wood sculpture in this area of the Trust created from fallen trees, the other two have been blipped in the past.
The name Riding Wood must refer to the new saplings planted around to replace the fallen giant and also to recall that this part of the Trust was once used for riding before the previous owner Miss Moore donated the land to the Trust in perpetuity to protect it from marauding developers.
The afternoon was spent sweltering at the allotment with Susan digging the final part of the main area while I sowed parsnips, beetroot and carrots, leeks and radish as well as some digging around the edges.
A very pleasant evening and early morning was spent with Bob and Sue. Although we live only 11 miles from each other the last time we saw them was in Banff in Alberta in September. Before that, owing to health issues we’d not seen them for ages and ages. It was gone 1.00am when we left!
