Pasqueflower 2018
The pasqueflowers at Barnack Hills and Holes rather missed their Easter slot, but are now reaching their peak of perfection. It's become an annual pilgrimage to go and see them, but its always worth it. I think they're one of the most spectacular of British wild flowers - the rich velvety deep-purple tepals contrasting perfectly with the mass of chrome yellow stamens. A few other wildflowers are now appearing in the grassland, including the first early purple-orchids, but it's still quite slow compared with 2017.
In the afternoon we went over to see Molly, so that Chris and Lizzy could tell her about their engagement. She was so pleased, particularly as there hasn't been a wedding in her immediate family since her own - both her sons missed out on this rite of passage! I took a lemon and blueberry drizzle cake which she thoroughly enjoyed - I think I'll be baking another one for her 91st birthday at the beginning of May!
