Glenorchy
Back blipped on 22nd April.
Our destination today was a farmstay just south of Mossburn. Not too far, so we had time to enjoy the drive. We drove from Wanaka over the Crown Range, the summit of which, at 1076m, is the highest sealed road in New Zealand. It was pretty windy up there, but an excellent view down to Lake Wakatipu (see extra). Then we descended into Queenstown. It was busy, with many tourists, so we took the advice of the locals we had met the previous evening, and drove up the side of Lake Wakatipu to Glenorchy. A lovely drive, and an opportunity to wander around, admiring the birds, including a black swan and a number of New Zealand scaup. There was a great view across the lake to snow topped mountains.
