Merida

Merida was built by the Emperor Augustus in 25BC to house the discharged soldiers of his army. The name derives from Emerita Augusta, which means 'The veterans of Augustus'.

Today this town of 60000 souls houses the National Museum of Roman Arts and several magnificent roman sites, including an amphitheatre. theatre and Circus.
