What will the harvest be?
This is Abbey Gardens. It is a community food growing space in Newham, London. Using land by the ruins of West Ham Abbey.
The project was crowned most inspirational food growing community in London in Capital Growth's Growing for gold award.
Their inspiration was the Plaistow Land Grabbers. These guys reclaimed land in East London in 1906 to grow food in protest of high unemployment levels and demonstrate that unemployed people were willing to work.
Their motto was What will the harvest be? That works on so many levels - now and then.
The image on the cabin is taken from an original photograph taken in Triangle Camp, moments before they were arrested. You can see the police officers ready behind them.
So here you have the past - via an image of the Plaistow Land Grabbers
The present - the food being grow in the triangular raised beds
The future - The Growing Leaders from Capital Growth's development work.
