Pretty in Pink
The Istanbul Tulip festival is drawing to a close now, and Emirgan park with its abundance of colour was a magnet for many hundreds of people today, including Caitlin and me, to see the sea of tulips on this beautiful and special day - National Sovereignty and Children's Day, a national holiday and a gorgeously warm and sunny day. Amongst the flowers was this bridal couple, quite the sweetest bloom in the park, radiating happiness on their special day.
Our park promenade paused for lunch in one of the (crowded) cafes, and so it was late afternoon when we left, by which time I'd taken a bunch of photos - unfortunately quite a few blooms now past their best - really should have gone last week. At the park's entrance the road along the Bosphorus, was, as we expected, a carpark. Gridlock, almost stationary traffic in both directions and so we walked. All the way back to Arnavutkoy - some 8km - and the only reason we didn't cover the distance more quickly than the cars was because we stopped for a drink along the way. Then we stopped again in Arnavutkoy for beer and pizza before finally getting home eight o' clockish.
