TT152: Tiny Trifle, will travel
OK, so what links this trifle with travel?
We were due to join friends for lunch at The Escoffier where food is produced by students of the Bournemouth and Poole College” preparing for a career in Hospitality and Catering? (“Enjoy a gourmet dining experience in the world renowned Escoffier Restaurant at the Lansdowne Bournemouth”).
But our dear friends sent the wrong date (these things happen). On arrival there was no sign of them, or any booking. So I called them and found it was for the 26th (we aren’t free). And the restaurant was fully booked.
So instead we went to the adjoining Coastline Brasserie which had a ‘Best Of British’ event. This time the catering was by Tourism and Hospitality students at Bournemouth University, so as part of their training for management positions they were getting experience in the kitchens. The food was less of a fine dining event, offering beef and ale pie, fish and chips, and a Quorn Cottage Pie which was rather nice.
I had my eye on the trifle, but sadly although they explained they usually use vegetarian ‘gelatine’, they had received the animal one.
Well back to the travel theme. These students are likely to travel the world. If any do choose to work in the kitchens, maybe this tiny trifle will make an appearance.
