Mexican Violence?
A continuing theme on media coverage of Mexico is the violence that supposedly permeates the country. Writers love to count the deaths since the war on drugs started and the Mexican newspapers seem to always have a bloody photograph or two on their back page (at least the sensationalist paper sold on the street corner to passing motorists). After seeing this photo shoot on Playa La Ropa this morning, however, I am wondering if the papers are beginning to run out of "real" bodies and must resort to staged photos. Who knows what the final use will be, my limited Spanish certainly did not allow me to determine exactly what was going on, but it does make one pause to consider how accurate the many stories on violence really are.
