New Mill Sluice

I passed this on my walk to work this morning. Reminded me a of a piece from the Kalavala, a 19th century work of epic poetry from - I think - Finland which goes like this:

Stop rapids foaming
Stop mighty waters surging.
Maid of the water, girl of the foam
With your embrace, calm the waves.

Which then got me thinking about everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy.
