Poppies for Carnations
Today Portugal celebrates 44 years since their Carnation Revolution, when they peacefully overthrew Salazar's dictatorship of over 40 years. We heard the fireworks at midnight, and wandered down to the Adega at lunchtime, but missed the celebrations. The Adega was packed, though - it's a national holiday, and we chatted with folk.
So - no carnations like last year, but some poppies from very close to those cannons, next to the castle. And those two will be with us very soon, se Deus quiser.
Speaking of bloodless, was rather surprised when I opened the chicken I bought at the supermarket, to find as well as the entire head (with beak), feet (with claws) and giblets, a packet of "fresh chicken blood"...
