An ancient tree

Today, I decided to return to the woods of last Friday's visit. I wanted time to take photographs and to try to catch some of the autumn leaves before they are all on the ground.

I had a pleasant time but the light was low and there was some wind, creating difficulties with exposures. I ended up mainly concentrating on tiny lichens on large fixed branches, and even then it was hard to keep the tripod steady. Then it rained. I will have to return another day.

Here is one of the rowan trees which has some fallen branches, now home to many mosses and lichens. There was evidence of rabbits climbing the low branches too.
