Out with the old-old, in with the new-old

Mr Canon Inc and his army of marketeers would have me believe that I totally need the new Canon EOS12450DX, with a 125 Tetrapixel dipstic8 sensor and 64K video (dolby THX sound), to take my photography to a whole new level. 

I beg to differ. 

My camera has served me more than adequately for the last 8 years. It's been everywhere with me. Flung in and out of bags, onto table tops, in the cold, in the rain, in the searing heat (in Spain, not in Ireland), it's been dropped a few times. It's been used, and abused. And it shows. It is an old lady, with no less than 150,000 shots clocked. 

Lately it's been acting up a bit. Not an all-out strike à la French railways (or French air traffic control, or anything French), but a certain sort of lassitude. A slowness to respond at the command of the shutter release button. A fondness for some erratic behaviour in the mode control menu. A tendency to not lock exposure & focus and allow that all aul bollix Raheny reframe before shooting. 


Something had to be done. On a budget, in typical Raheny fashion. 


Her twin sister was sourced. In Japan. A barely touched, barely loved, seldom caressed sister in Yokohama. 
 
Her time has come. In rainy, windspet Ireland. 

I will love you both.
