The Pretty Boy
I chose the easy shot for today's blip - it required nothing more than a little crop which fit my schedule quite well. The bird is a 2nd year Summer Tanager, not fully mounted into his adult plumage, but still looking quite lovely By next summer, he'll be a lovely reddish-orange.
Hilly, Anni , Simon and I spent some time back at Sabine Woods this morning. And while the bird sightings were good, they didn't compare to yesterday's rather amazing warbler showing. Still, plenty to see. Also loads of mosquitos who didn't seem to be at all repelled by the mozzie spray we all doused ourselves with. Lots of itchy red spots.
From Sabine, we made the 1.5 hour drive to Port Bolivar where we took the ferry to Galveston Island - and what a great ride! The photo ops from the ferry were fab and we found ourselves wishing the ride were much longer than 20 minutes.
Checked into our hotel in Galveston, quick walk on the beach, download photos, shower and meet the rest of the group in the lobby. Lots of laughs, renewing old friendships and making some wonderful new friends, too.
Tomorrow morning, it's off to Galveston Island State Park... I wonder what we will discover...
