Inside the Amazon spheres
A friend at Amazon gave me a tour of the Amazon spheres today - we even had our lunch inside (we got salads at Evergreens and as we went into the spheres, one of the plant specialist remarked that we were being somewhat tacky by eating our salads in front of the plants... hahahaha).
This is a bat flower, or Tacca Chantrieri. So interesting looking! The extra is a picture of the bird's nest which looks great next to the curved beams holding up the glass. Even though it was hot outside, it still felt cool and pretty moist inside. Which is reasonable given that there is a great collection of misters going on and off all around the place. There is also a living wall about 5 stories high (extra is looking down from the top) - you can see people at the bottom. On the very top floor, there is a room under the glass that has lounge chairs on it. Granted they are hard wood, and uncomfortable loungers (don't want people to sit there too long), but still, it's the thought!
This is a splendid place for employees to hang out and I have to give kudos to Amazon.
