The Mistake

Here is part two of the "series" of events of the Little Girl Here we go:"

She continued making silly mistakes after that. She didn’t mean to, she followed everyone’s influence. She followed Shannon’s influence when she was told to steal toys from school. She followed her sister when she called the police and aimlessly screamed down the phone. She followed the media when she… Well, I guess you can’t really blame the media. Because that’s what people say isn’t it? The media doesn’t influence anyone. The media can’t control a small child into giving the incorrect information to the wrong people. Or as her friend thought. The thing is, she didn't actually do what she was accused of. She didn't do anything wrong here. But she was always who was being blamed, so she just accepted it and lost everyone over it.
She was accused of putting her best friends mobile number online, on a website that she didn’t even know. On a website that happened to contain the wrong kind of people. The kind she had come across before. Only it wasn’t her. It was the character. Nicola HATED her for it. She apologised non-stop for the entirety of the year. She was sorry. She didn't even do anything and she was sorry. She wished she was brave enough to admit that she didn't even do it. But she wasn't. She eventually knew who did. But she couldn't say anything.

She saw it on TV and she followed it. She was only young. She was naïve, but Nicola was also young. Nicola was young and being threatened by paedophiles. So, who had it worse? Her or Nicola? Nicola’s mother was kind, she understood how deeply sorry she was, she could see that she didn’t mean to "do" it.

She was forgiven by the family after she paid for Nicola a new phone with a new number. It’s all she could think to do. And she wanted to make it right. Make it so her best friend didn’t leave her.

It was eventually made clear that she didn't do what she was accused of. Nicola's mother was very upset that they accepted the phone and continued to abuse and target her the way they did. They wanted to give it back. They couldn't understand why she accepted the blame. They didn't realise that she was so used to being told she was in the wrong by her family, by her friends, by people she didn't know and by the men that she didn't even realise she wasn't.

She felt worse than she normally did. She almost lost her friends. She almost let herself lose her friends because of how everyone else made her feel. She was so tempted to become the character again… She didn’t. Yet.
