Knight’s Law Tower.
Built in around 1750, this tower served the triple functionality of being a folly, a view point and a do’cot. Previously Blipped by SparseRunner soon after much of the under- and over-growth had been cleared; a bit like my famous haircuts, it’s taking a wee while to grow back in.
I was inspired by Kaybee’s hairy clouds yesterday and noticed that these clouds might warrant some attention while on my way to feed the bees - so stopped for a quick one. On the way back an hour or so later, the sky was turning a bit pink so I stopped again; the pink didn’t really work, but the reduced contrast helped a lot and the sky was just as good.
Allegedly, the restoration of the tower at a cost of £700,000 should be finished by 2018 – so they’ve missed that target then – and we should be able to climb up it and savour the magnificent views from the top and, maybe, collect some pigeon eggs on the way up. There is a folly in East Lothian whose stair is a favoured pigeon nest site; it’s particularly scary to climb up (and worse to come back down again) while wearing cycling shoes – the smear of broken eggs on the worn steps merely adding to the interest.
