Meeting Lear

Went to Oxford Quaker Meeting this morning. This is the Meeting House itself which hides behind the street-facing building.

Afterwards we looked around the special Edward Lear exhibition currently on at the Ashmolean Museum (just down the road from the Meeting).

We knew Lear's 'nonsense' works (Owl, Pussycat et al) but were unaware of his real artistic talents. Some excellent watercolours, oils and incredible botanical illustrations - not what you'd expect at all.
