Not letting anyone forget

Every month, Donna Hayes, her mother, and members of the family stage a public protest to remind the authorities of the extrajudicial killing of their child by the Portland Police. They join Northwest Pacific Family Circle, a support group for families of children who have been killed by the police. They meet in different counties, according to where their children were killed. In this photo, Donna, assisted by one of her daughters-in-law, is aiming the megaphone at the office of Portland's District Attorney, Rod Underhill, who ruled that police had not used excessive force in killing Quanice Hayes while he was unarmed, on his knees, and surrounded by a dozen police officers.
