Firemore beach
Our main outing for the day was to Inverewe Garden. I think we've been to the garden three times over the years, and it is always a delight. Not easy to photograph though, because there are so many plants in each shot.
With a little time to occupy after leaving the garden, I picked nearby Firemore simply because it looked good on the map.
It turned out to be a stunning spot, with some historical interest. Firemore is the anglicisation of Am Fathir Mor (the big shore land). It was a new township created in the clearances. In WWII it hosted a heavy anti-aircraft battery to protect Arctic convoys forming in Loch Ewe. Later, it is reputed to have been the hiding place for the Stone of Destiny after it was stolen in 1950.
