Meat & Cannoli

It was a very simple supper tonight, and afterwards we had coffee and watched one of my all time favorite films, The Godfather.

"Leave the gun. Take the cannolis."

It's very striking to see the parallel scenes and threads of plot between The Godfather and the HBO series Rome, which I have virtually memorized to a word.

But this meal would be just about impossible to create in the US. The meat items are venison burger and --get this --haggis sausage. As I said to the game butcher not far from here in Wales, in America you'd just forget about finding haggis. It would be hard enough to find anyone who knows what it is.

I'm grateful for all the expressions of concern and compassion regarding my people back home in the hurricane's path. My neighborhood is hardly touched, and I know quite a few people without utilities just now, but the storm has passed and people carry on.
