Pink and yellow fern frond
The promised rain never arrived in Peterborough, but there was a strong, blustery north wind that made it feel more like winter than spring. I spent most of the day at the computer, just making a couple of forays in the garden to do some weeding. I didn't stay long on either occasion.
While I was out there I spotted this young frond of Royal Fern which is growing on the edge of one of our ponds. It's the first time it's produced any spores, and I was struck by the wonderful colour contrasts - yellow fertile frond and soft pinkish copper leaves with a surprisingly magenta midrib. As pretty as any flowering plant!
