Iron Frame

This is the serial number of the Broadwood Piano we had donated to Old Government House.  It belonged to the Smith family - more specifically the mother of Sir Keith and Sir Ross Smith, who were the first aviators to fly from England to Australia. 

This serial number enables me to establish that the piano is dated from 1894.

We are very excited to have it, especially since I recently found out that Sir Ross was the pilot for T.E. Lawrence (of Arabia fame).  I now have ambitions for a very specific collection from the Smith family, if I can con persuade anyone to donate other items.

First thing is to get hold of a copy of the Seven Pillars of Wisdom (not a first - they are valued at around $80,000).  Apparently Lawrence mentions Sir Ross in his book.
