May Day sunrise

My mother told me she had once washed her face in dew on Arthur’s Seat on a May Day sunrise. “It is an Edinburgh tradition,” she said “to make you beautiful for the rest of your life.”

Today was the day!

Cloudless skies were forecast so I set the alarm for 04:10 and ran the 5miles to the summit just in time for the sun appearing over the eastern horizon. There were dozens of other worshippers sheltered in nooks of the summit rocks, cameras&phones held aloft.

On the descent, I found some frost to rub on my coupon but it was offset by bogies and sweat from my exertions.

Past the parliament where groups of cloaked pagans with painted faces made their way towards the hill from the Beltane celebrations on Calton.

Have a great day!
