Tortoise Stone
These are not really fossilised tortoises. To give them the correct name they are known as Septarian Nodules and they can be found in shale banks near to where I live. In the Trough of Bowland there is a large area of shale I have often gone to and collected these tortoise stones. The only problem with collecting them is that the nearest road is three miles away and by the time you have walked to these shale banks and found your stones to take home and put them in your rucksack you have another three miles to walk back to the car with your heavy load!
However they do make interesting garden features and topics of conversation
