More elephant

Another view of the Pilanesberg National Park.  Apparently, elephants eat about half a ton of foliage every day.  This one seemed well on its way to filling its daily quota.

The elephants had a rocky ride when first introduced into the park in the 1980s.  Wikipedia relates the history and a rather drastic outcome: " .. As no mature bulls were brought in as they were too large (to transport), the young bulls caused a bit of havoc and killed 17 rhinoceroses. The reason for this was there was no parental care and the young bulls came into adolescence at too young an age. However, by this time the transport techniques had improved so 6 older bulls were brought in from the Kruger National Park. This suppressed the adolescence problem. The young culprits were all shot..."
