Flowers for Bernard
This afternoon we spent a few hours at the American War cemetery in Margraten, I must admit that I had to cry when I saw all those crosses and images of these young men, so impressive.
8301 marble crosses and stars of David here, most of them with just their names on it.
A project was started to find and add a face to each of them. For more than 5800 this has been successful but the search still continues.
We have adopted the grave of Capt. Bernard Sweet who piloted a Thunderbolt in the 9th Air Force when he was killed in action March 25th, 1945.
He was born October 25th, 1919 in Rushford (NY USA).
Some years ago just by chance we did get in contact to a family member of his fiancee in New York and then we got a copy of this image of him, now being displayed.
Every two years the photos are being displayed for just a few days, which is very impressive.
Thanks to them who gave their lives we have been living in freedom in this land for 73 years already.
There're also some extras today, please take a look if you like.
Thanks a lot BikerBear for hosting the FlowerFriday challenge.
And huge thanks to you all for the lovely comments, stars and hearts on my Abstract yesterday, much apprciated!
