Life through the lens...

90th Anniversary.

One May morning 90 years ago, Pudsey lad, Eric Lodge stepped out with four girl companions on a walk to Almscliffe Crag and the world of rambling has never been the same since.

It was through the efforts of the club members that helped establish both the Youth Hostels Association and the Ramblers Association.
The club was also in the forefront of the successful campaign to set up the National Parks.

Back in 1929 a full days Walk was not less than 30 miles, and half a day not less than 15 miles.
They even had midnight rambles of 30 miles starting at 10.30pm.
They were a very tough and hardy bunch in those days, and much younger.
We do between 6 and 12 miles today.

Today 60 members celebrated the occasion with a buffet lunch at Bolton Abbey Village Hall.
It was lovely to meet some of the older members who had joined in the 1950’s and 60s.
Some still occasionally walk with us today.
It was amazing to see all the memorabilla which had been collected over the years.
Especially the old photos.
What a very enjoyable day, and the sun shone nonstop. Temp. 25C.
