Scarlet tanager

A walk in the woods at Blackhand Gorge Nature Preserve. This tanager is a most spectacular and eye-catching bird. I thought the cardinal was something special, but the tanager is a far brighter flash of colour in the still fairly drab spring forest. Very hard to photograph and I feel lucky I got any sort of shot at all.
