Burn the Witch
Happy Halloween...
Firstly thank you all for the really nice comments on my 200th blip yesterday. Strange how good it makes you feel achieving a milestone like that. :-)
So...... Trick or Treat?
..Treat?
......Well this is the doorway and the churchyard at St Andrews church in Newcastle, its the oldest church in Newcastle.
..... not creepy enough for Halloween?
Okay you asked for it.... In 1649 a Scottish witch finder called John Kincaid came to Newcastle to hunt witches and warlocks. In 1650 he saw to it that 15 women and 1 man were executed for witchcraft on the Town Moor in Newcastle and they were buried in this very churchyard. To prevent them from returning as ghosts, nails were driven through the legs of the bodies before burial.
So if a graveyard that holds the bodies of 15 witches and a wizard isn't fitting enough for halloween, what is? The title of this blip is named after the song by Queens of the Stone Age.
hope you fright....
