Sugar Skulls
Our market has been transformed by preparations for Dia de los Muertos which is coming tomorrow evening. The street is filled with vendors selling tons of flowers and a huge variety of items, like these sugar skulls. They are part of the decorations people use when they construct alters to honor those who have passed away. This national holiday is thought to have originated with Aztecs and has been celebrated for hundreds of years. I am excited to be in Mexico this year and even more thrilled to be heading to Patzcuaro tomorrow to experience this special day in a place renowned for its Dia de los Muertos' celebration.
