Summer Isles

We set off on a five mile walk this morning not sure what the weather was going to do and walking above the Minch it was very windy. The walk goes to Culnacraig literally at the end of the road in Coigach. A few houses pretty at this time of year because of all the gorse.

The route back is on the road and the sky cleared and the sun came through giving us a fantastic view of the Summer Isles.

We have done this walk 3 times before, one was last year. Chris wanted to return to see what all the digging we had witnessed was about. They have planted lots of broadleaf trees over a stretch of the shore. Not a bad thing but it will eventually restrict some of the view. We had just been watching the Loch Seaforth (Calmac ferry) heading up the Minch to Stornaway. I wish!

We popped in to the Piping College for coffee and stayed for lunch.

We had heard the cuckoo again and thought we may have seen it on our way back. We also saw what we think was a Hen Harrier above Badentarbet beach.

Popped in to a new Art gallery in what used to be the Polbain Stores. Really interesting people, we talked so much I didn't really get much time to look around. They are returning locals and the potter used to work with husband of Woolley Headed a blipper who I met up with here a couple of years ago who sadly died suddenly.

A quick drink at the An Fouran bar overlooking Ristol (Summer Isle) and the campsite and watching a raggle tangle bunch of multicoloured Hebridean sheep wandering along the road. I tried to get a bramble bush, off one of them but couldn't catch it!

Back now and the late afternoon/evening sun is on the beach and the mountains keep drifting in and out of the cloud. As the gallery lady said '.. who needs a heat wave with these views!'
