Tigrayan trek

This was the first day of our four day trek in Tigray, north of Addis. Very dry and very beautiful country. This was harvest time, although you can't tell from this photo. Tigray suffered horribly in the famine in '84, the war against the Derg (communist regime), the war for secession, and the battle to kick out the Italians (late 30's) although you wouldn't know any of that now.
