Hot Springs

We'd decided to visit some places away from the Mississippi and we picked Hot Springs, Arkansas, because it looked fairly green on the road atlas. It turns out it's famous as the boyhood home of Bill Clinton and also as a popular early 20th century spa town frequented by major league baseball player and various celebrities including Al Capone. Several bathhouses set up along the main street, many of them still standing, all vying with one another to provide the services people wanted.
Sounds like it may have been a bit of a den of iniquity, masquerading as a high class resort.
