Shall we gather at the river?
I was in Glen Creran, north of Oban, this afternoon to help a friend who's responsible for eliminating Rhododendron ponticum throughout the glen. I was asked to look at a number of rhododendrons in private gardens to see whether or not they were for the chop!
One of these gardens sits on the banks of the River Ure, which flows through the glen and into Loch Creran and thence to the sea. The whole area is beautiful, and I was pleased to see recently that the proposal for a huge sand extraction quarry at the mouth of the river has been turned down by the planners. One day I'd like to walk through the roadless upper glen and out to Ballachulish. One day.
