Backwater Venice

Arrived in Venice this morning to a spot of freak weather - high tide about 20cm higher than expected. It even made the news back in the UK, according to the texts we got from family and friends. Anyway, we had to get off the ferry somewhere across the wrong side of the island and walk the rest of the way. A few bits were ankle-deep (wet socks!) but it was all good fun. Having to traverse various quarters and avoid the properly flooded areas meant that we got off the beaten track and saw some of the back streets - or rather back waters - of the city. Where the locals park their boats :-)
