Look Sharp!
Spending a few many boring hours this week sharpening the new set of chisels. Three of these will be used in a woodworking class I'm taking on Saturday. The class notice says "These need to be razor sharp", followed by the admonition:
***This is not a sharpening class, please arrive with your tools SHARP !!!***
I get the message. The pink strip on the glass plate is the final stage in sharpening. It's an 8,000 grit abrasive which feels as smooth as silk. The faint dark stripe in the middle is the metal that's been removed, resulting in a mirror-smooth surface.
We'll be learning how to cut dovetails using only hand tools.
