Birthday gfft

It has been my birthday today an I have had a really good day!
I spent the morning at work and was given some lovely presents, and then this afternoon Robyn came with me to Oaken wood on the Surrey/Sussex border to look for the Long horn bees Eucera longicornis.
Luckily the weather was cooler and the bees were quite quiet and fairly easy to photograph (see extra) of a male with his long antennae and cheeky little face.
But the highlight of my trip was this stunning little Purple hairstreak Neozephyrus  quercus caterpillar. At first I thought it was a bud on the oak tree, and then I realized what it was!! wow! 
As birthdays go this certainly was a good one...and it continues with a family BBQ tomorrow.
