Roots
My first proper motorcycling tour this summer brought me to the West Coast of Finland. Here your see the memorial for the Karelians whose graves were left behind when the USSR took the area after the war. My father's family were evacuated to Nakkila, where this touching memorial is located. The girl is plucking the kantele. The inscription can be translated as follows: They tilled and guarded the Karelian soil/ we mustn't forget the worth of their toil.
