STURNIS VULGARIS
The Starling is a very gregarious bird introduced to NZ from europe in the 1860's - They have a very pretty plumage which changes throughout the year. They do well for the pasture, feasting on pesky grassgrubs. Farmers in NZ in days gone by made nestboxes on fence posts to encourage their presence. They can often be seen in large flocks.
