Ithaca Falls. Leica/Lumix Macro-Elmarit 45mm.
A few days in Ithaca, NY, home of Cornell University. The oft-seen informal slogan of the city proclaims, "Ithaca is Gorges". Undeniably. The center of town is in a deep valley at the southern end of Cayuga Lake. The only way in or out is up or down the incredibly steep streets traversing the valley walls. In winter with its attendant snow and ice, driving must be a horror show. Either that or the plow crews know how to keep on top of things. If this were Massachusetts where, by the way, we are no strangers to heavy snow, every storm would bring the city to a grinding halt while the locals treated the advent of a few inches of snow like the end of the world. Ithaca Falls are right on the edge of the Cornell campus and downtown. Really quite a thrilling sight.
