Avocet
Today I took a drive out to RSPB Marshside. Last year we went for the first time and have only been back a couple of times with variable success.
I decided to walk out onto the marsh this morning and both heard and saw loads of skylarks and meadow pipits, but I liked this shot of the RSPB symbol, the avocet, in front of the visitor centre.
There are a pair that have a nest right on the tiny island directly in front of the hide with some eggs. They swapped nesting duties a couple of times and did a great job of defending their position. They weren't about to let any other birds settle on the island. Their high pitched squeal was quite useful and successful in telling others that this was THEIR island!!
See the pair and nest of eggs in extras....I wonder when they will hatch?
