The blue hour
A sweltering day, the hottest early May Bank Holiday ever recorded. And I spent the morning baking sausage rolls, scones and Bakewell tart for Molly's 91st birthday tea.
We all went over to her house just after three and had a very jolly afternoon, listening to tunes from the 1940's, chatting and eating a lot of cake (see extra). She thoroughly enjoyed seeing all her grandsons and remained cheerful for the whole time. Over the years she's had many health problems, but I think sheer stubbornness had kept her going this long! An example to us all.
Once we'd arrived home I felt the need to chill out, so went for a walk round Gunwade Lake at Ferry Meadows just after sunset. It felt like a proper summer evening, with terns screaming as they flew over the lake, diving for fish, and the warm air redolent with the weedy scent of water.
