Vertical sunbathing

After dropping Pete and Chris at the station, I took Alex to record  his first reptile transect. We actually arrived a bit early, and the sun hadn't reached all of the refugia, but nevertheless he found a slow-worm under one of the tins and once the sun had reached them we found several more reptiles using them.

We also spent some time watching a dry stone wall, where we spotted this rather gravid female lizard was warming herself in the morning sunshine. While we were doing this a cuckoo was calling from a nearby copse and the hawthorn bushes were buzzing with solitary bees. A good way to start the day.
