A nice day

We do an annual Community Action day at work, when the office gets shut and we go off en masse and spend the day doing volunteer work for a local community group. This year, 13 of us went to the VSA Easter Anguston Farm and spent the day working with the folks there providing some extra manual labour to prepare a new area for planting and pruning a big alder hedge.

At the end of the day, we got a guided tour of the place and after seeing the cows, sheep, goats and pigs walked past their poly tunnels where they grow fruit (now empty) which, with their symmetry and the sun going down behind immediately said to me "blip".

Easter Anguston is an excellent place and there are a great bunch of folk there - staff and trainees - doing really brilliant work. One thing that was really nice was that as we all got stuck in to the digging we got filthy and it was hard work, but for the whole day everywhere I looked I saw people smiling. We had a great day and I hope our effort helps the place out a wee bit. I'm looking forward to going back to see what the muddy bit of stony ground we worked on today looks like next Summer once it planted up.

P.S. There is a farm shop (open all year) and a cafe (only open in Summer), some trails round the farm and even a hide for watching the red kites, so if you are passing by its a nice place to visit and just off the Aberdeen - Braemar road.
